greecelgbtstudyabroad: everywhere in athens there are ‘stray’ cats and dogs that we have seen either sleeping, running around playing or in the case of the cat you see above, distracting us from the national archeological site that we paid to get into.  the city of athens has taken all of the dogs that run free on the streets and fixed them, tagged them, given them collars with LED lights on them for night time and feed them on a regular basis. there’s something really nice about being able to walk down the street and just see animals being free and enjoying themselves and making everyones day a little bit brighter.

Sura’s story was a sad one. She had been abandoned and rescued near to death when she was just 2 month old. She was strong though, and recovered in a space of 2-3 weeks. We had contacted the association that was taking care of her (3,5 months old now) seeking a kitty to adopt. They presented us her case, a special one. She needed some space because she was shy and frightened of loud noises. We are a couple without kids, so we could give her that. With time, they said, she would be closer to humans.These photos are from Sura’s second day at home. She had been 24 hours under the sofa, only leaving it to eat when we were not around. We cannot explain the joy we felt when we got to see her the first time since she had come home.
